ASCEND didn't emerge from a boardroom strategy session. It was forged in the wake of a crisis — and shaped by the students who refused to accept defeat.
"To develop the next generation of globally-minded, commercially capable leaders through competition, collaboration, and real-world experience."
— ASCEND Mission Statement
Every great institution has a founding story. Ours begins not with a vision statement, but with a door being slammed shut — and students who chose to build their own.
Without warning, DECA — the global business education organization — revoked all international chapter memberships. Hundreds of schools across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East were left without a program, a competition structure, or a community.
Rather than return to local programs or simply accept the loss, a group of school leaders and student executives from three continents began meeting virtually. The question wasn't whether to rebuild — it was how to build something better.
The Association of Student Commerce, Entrepreneurship, and New Developing Leaders is established as a fully independent international organization. ASCEND is built from the ground up for international schools — not adapted from a domestic model.
Within months of founding, ASCEND secures its first major corporate partnerships. Samsung and Aramco recognize the organization's potential to develop future business talent — and the credibility of an independent, international platform.
Manchester City FC, Fairtrade, Bitexco, and FURSYS join the ASCEND partner network. The first ASCEND International Conference takes place, bringing together member schools across multiple countries for the inaugural competition season.
ASCEND continues to onboard member schools across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond. The organization is actively growing its competition categories, conference programming, and partner network — with no ceiling in sight.
Our values aren't wall decorations. They show up in how we run competitions, how we treat partner organizations, and how we develop student leaders. They are ASCEND's operating system.
We hold ourselves and each other to the highest standard — in preparation, presentation, and performance. Mediocrity is not an option when you're competing on a global stage.
We compete and collaborate with complete transparency and honesty. The trust of our partner organizations, member schools, and students depends on a foundation we never compromise.
ASCEND was built because someone dared to do things differently. We carry that spirit forward — always asking how we can improve our programs, surprise our partners, and raise the bar for what's possible.
We measure success not in registrations but in outcomes. Did students get better? Did schools grow stronger? Did our partners see real value? Impact is the only metric that matters.
Whether you're a school administrator, a student leader, or a corporate partner — there's a place for you in the ASCEND story. The organization is growing, and the best moments are still ahead.
